If the Peace does not exist, what does it means The Peace Bridge? What is an Open Border if there is disgrace and fear remains; what is the meaning of Mutual Tolerance among nations if it’s space is limited?
Performance takes place at the river separating Germany and Poland. A symbolic bridge is created by throwing a white textile (Saxon cloth) across to the opposite river bank, incessantly and repeatedly trying to reach the other side.
Saxon cloth is covered by Georgian scripts from the poem Night in a Tiger’s Skin, written by famous Georgian poet Shota Rustaveli’s (XII century). Poem tells of making a True Bridge—one of friendship and love. Script is made with Saperavi Wine (endemic Georgian specie)

My effort to follow the footprints
Performance commissioned by cARTveli Foundation, shown at the Georgian Christmas Fair in London and the White Cube, Mayfair.
It is quite characteristic of Georgian society to incorporate foreign habits into its environment flatly. It looks as forced, unnatural and illogical as trying to fit into a piece of pottery. The allegory of Qvevri is a clever choice because usually, very traditional and very distinctively Georgian customs go through these modifications. “The influence of the dominating countries has always been present in Georgia. However, a lot of things get lost in the attempt to Europeanise the society- traditions, self-awareness, identity,” remarks the artist.
(2013)Wine Art Performance
Our wine and our alphabet are unique expressions of Georgian identity. Intertwining and uniting them has become a central challenge for me as an artist.
Saperavi is an endemic grape variety with distinctive qualities. Traditionally, it is used for colouring and giving depth of colour – something that its very name suggests. For this reason, painting with red wine has become for me a form of creative expression, a kind of painting in itself.
In this performance, I want to tint the minor notes that accompany the injustices unfolding in the world with the major tones and optimism of red wine, opposing the sorrowful melody that appears in our imagination, where the lowered, melancholic tone is confronted by the living colour of wine.
Painting with wine is a biologically pure, pleasant, and living process, where the artwork we create changes together with us.
