Elene Rakviashvili is a multidisciplinary artist based in Georgia. Since graduating from the Tbilisi State Academy of Arts, she has worked in installation, conceptual photography, video, and visual art. Her installations are often large-scale, focused on reflecting social and identity issues. In her early solo exhibitions, she presented her main concepts by uniting ready-made objects, video, and photography into immersive installations.

Elene focuses on various media, creating site-specific installations that often incorporate video and sound. By using waste fabric and second-hand textiles, she constructs large-scale pieces alongside conceptual photography.

Inspired by nature, she addresses environmental issues, using video art to advocate for ecosystem preservation amidst urban development.

Later, focusing on calligraphy traditions and the properties of Georgian red wine, she began working more intensely, linking performance with conceptual site-specific installations.

Originally from the Republic of Georgia in the South Caucasus, she draws upon rich cultural traditions. Her artwork also reflects the experiences of the challenging economic and political situations of her homeland.

This handprint is part of the series Medea’s Garden. It explores the fragile threshold between remedy and poison, inspired by the ancient wisdom of Medea of Colchis. The serigraphy is inspired by the endemic Digitalis ferruginea and Digitalis purpurea, portrayed as a union of two plants from the same family yet carrying a dual essence: capable of soothing or harming, saving or destroying, while also embodying symbolic female and male principles.

A Video work (1 min) in which Silkworm cocoons as “living Material” trace a cardiogram across shifting surfaces, revealing how a single pulse is shaped by its environment.
